Department of Business Development and Grants

The Department is responsible for business development in order to enhance the competitiveness of MSMEs. It also facilitates business linkages and financing programmes in order to facilitate MSME participation in economic ventures.

The following are the specific functions of the department:

  1. Formulate and review legislation and policies for MSMEs business development in order to create an enabling environment for enterprise growth;
  2. Formulate and review legislation and policies for empowerment in order to facilitate access to finance;
  3. Develop sector profiles to facilitate Business development strategies for MSMEs;
  4. Identify and actualise market opportunities for businesses suitable for the MSMEs in order to enhance their competitiveness;
  5. Coordinate development of programmes for MSMEs relating to markets, Business linkages, graduate enterprise and Joint ventures and partnerships;
  6. Monitor and evaluate the implementation of business development policies in order to recommend appropriate interventions and ensure attainment of set goals;
  7. Promote MSMEs products and services in order to create awareness;
  8. Facilitate capacity building in the preparation and consolidation of bankable business plans in order to access financing;
  9. Collaborate with stakeholders on empowerment strategies in order to broaden MSME participation in economic ventures;
  10. Monitor and evaluate the implementation of empowerment policies in order to recommend appropriate interventions and ensure attainment of set goals; and
  11. Promote and facilitate alternative financing options in order to ease access to

The Department has two sections namely;

  1. Business Development;
  2. Grants
