Department of Small and Medium Enterprises

The Department is responsible for the development and promotion of small and medium enterprise development programmes in order to increase the sector’s contribution to socio-economic development.

The following are the specific functions of the department:

  1. Facilitate the investment in Micro-Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs); in order to enhance value addition, wealth and employment creation;
  2. Facilitate capacity building of Micro-Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in order to enhance their competitiveness and industrialisation;
  3. Coordinate Micro-Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector development reform programmes in order to facilitate integration into the formal economy;
  4. Develop and facilitate rural Micro-Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) programmes in order to reduce inequalities between rural and peri-urban areas;
  5. Coordinate dissemination of business information and market intelligence to Small and Medium Enterprises in order to inform decision making and create awareness.

The department has three (3) sections namely;

  1. Small Enterprise Development
  2. Medium Enterprise Development
  3. Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation
